“Pink is more than a colour,” as stated by the Spanish Cancer Association , in its mission to raise awareness about the struggle of those affected by cancer and of their families. For this reason, and in recognition of the International Day Against Breast Cancer, which is celebrated on 19th October, the Royal Spanish Football Federation has been bathed in pink.

The key figures in this campaign, which aims to raise awareness around this cause, were the national team coach, Montse Tomé, and a group of male and female referees, who raised pink flags at the Ciudad del Fútbol after carrying pink footballs. Additionally, the referees showed pink cards, which carry messages of hope and encouragement to all those fighting against this illness.

Furthermore, the players who participated in the Copa de la Reina draw and those in attendance wore pink ribbons, a symbol of this cause.

The RFEF’s activities will also reach the fan zone in Almendralejo this Saturday, 19th October, where the women’s national team will play on 25th October. In this space, pink ribbons will be handed out and activities with pink footballs will take place.

The aim is to send a message of support from Spanish football to those affected by breast cancer and their loved ones, not only to the women currently battling the disease but also to those who, after overcoming it, face the great challenge of rebuilding their lives.
