The Post Office (Correos) issues stamp dedicated to the World Champions
The Spanish Post Office (Correos) has issued a stamp dedicated to the Spanish National Football Team, which belongs to the 'Sports' series, paying tribute to the team crowned champion in the Women's World Cup. One more tribute to our champions, whose achievement is now reflected in a stamp that commemorates the feat with the image of the trophy and their historic team photo in Sydney.
This success has earned the national team great support across society and recognition through numerous sporting awards, including the Gold Medal of the Royal Order of Sporting Merit. In addition, the triumph also helped our national team to recently rise to first place in the FIFA rankings.
With a print run of 90,000 copies and a price of 6.45 euros per unit, this stamp can now be purchased through the usual channels:
At Correos offices;
through Correos Market,
by contacting the Philatelic Philatelic Service at [email protected],
or by calling 915 197 197.
In its official press release, the Post Office (Correos) highlighted the figure of Olga Carmona, who was the scorer of the goal in the final against England. As it is recalled, "after scoring, she raised her shirt and showed the message: 'Merchi' as a tribute to the deceased mother of one of her best friends".
The Post Office Correos also wanted to draw attention to the fact that Spain are now part of a elite list of teams that can boast having won a FIFA Women's World Cup, a tournament born in 1991 and only previously won by the USA (four titles), Germany (two championships), Norway, Japan and our own country (one World Cup each).
