“This team is incredible”

Santi Denia, Sergio Gómez and Juanlu have shared their feelings after sealing a place in the final.

The Men’s Olympic Football team is dreaming of winning the gold medal in the final against France next Friday 9 August at 18:00. A great comeback against Morocco allowed Santi Denia's team to reach the final. Sergio Gómez, Juanlu and the national coach gave their views on the match and their impressions ahead of the final.

First of all, Santi Denia wanted to congratulate Morocco for their great performance: "I congratulate the Moroccans for the great job they have done". The coach from Albacete also wanted to underline the talent of his players. "There are 22 very good players, as we saw at the European Championships with the senior team too, they all contribute. They have done a great job", he stressed. "I was happy for the whole group: players, coaches... they are a family that gets along very well," he said. In conclusion, he stressed that for the final they must "start well" because "it is in the details" he considers that the key to winning the gold will be found.

The Catalan player, Sergio Gómez, also wanted to highlight the great performance of the whole team. "I want to congratulate all 22 players because this team is incredible. We deserve the gold, but we are going to have to fight for it," he said. He also pointed out that they will face a "very difficult" opponent. However, he is clear about how the Spanish national team should go out onto the pitch: "We'll go for it without fear and if we are a team we're going to get it".

The scorer of the winning goal, Juanlu, also spoke about the match against Morocco and the final they play this Friday. "At that moment you don't have time to think about anything. Then you think about your family, your girlfriend. After a year in which there have been hard moments, this is a dream," he said of the goal that meant a place in the final. "Santi told me that the four substitutes were going to be very important and he was right," he said.
