Irene Paredes: ‘Our aim is to win tomorrow and keep looking forward.‘
Irene Paredes faced the media in the Ciutat de València press room to respond to journalists on the eve of Spain's first UEFA Women's Nations League qualifier against Belgium.
The centre-back began by remembering the victims of the floods caused by the storms that devastated several towns in the Valencia region last October: ‘I think it's a match with a special connotation, it's an attempt to try to help all those people who suffered so much. I don't know if we will be able to fill the stadium but I want to encourage everyone to come and make a contribution’.
💬 "Es un partido con una connotación especial. Animamos a todo el mundo a venir para poder ayudar a toda esa gente que lo necesita".

Regarding Belgium, who are under the orders of a new coach, the captain is confident in her national teams qualities: ‘Tomorrow we will come up against a team that has a new coach, we have studied different possibilities but we are a team that has the resources to adapt to how they attack us and based on what they do tomorrow, we have the means to respond’.
Paredes is very clear about what the objective should be and despite having played against the Belgians almost twenty times, she is taking nothing for granted: ‘We are not too relaxed about the match, we are focused on tomorrow's game. We're not thinking about anything else, we've played against Belgium many times with all kinds of results, our aim is to win tomorrow and keep looking forward.

The national team centre-back also had some words of support and affection for Salma Paralluelo: ‘Salma has had a difficult few months, she was in some discomfort and the club and the player decided to stop and work very hard, I know she has suffered, it is not easy to take that step to the side with a view to long-term goals instead of playing at the weekend game like the everyone else. We know how strong she is, how different she is and she is a key player in this team’.
💬 "Somos un equipo con muchos recursos y mañana nos adaptaremos al partido que nos proponga Bélgica".
