True to his style and his speech on a historic night, this Tuesday 9 July in Munich, Luis de la Fuente has focused the credit for Spain's qualification for the final of the European Championships on his players, who, he says, "are fantastic players who always work for the good of the team and put their individuality at the service of the group. I'm proud to be able to coach these players and I think I'm lucky to be their coach.

For the coach, what has been achieved is not the result of chance, because "I knew the raw materials. I knew that this team is very versatile, with the different styles of play that these players make possible, with everyone contributing different things. This type of football doesn't come about by chance. I really feel that the protagonists are the ones who go out on the pitch, and I prefer it that way. They are the ones who get us excited and I am proud of the way we have reached the final. I like that we have got used to the fact that there is no achievement without suffering.

Regarding Lamine Yamal's goal, which opened the door to the comeback, the coach from La Rioja said that "we have seen the genius of a genius, of a footballer that we have to look after together and who must continue with the same humility, professionalism and maturity. I am delighted that Lamine Yamal is Spanish and that we will be able to enjoy him for many years to come"

Despite going behind on the scoreboard against the Gauls, Spain bounced back in a semi-final, De la Fuente commented, "before the match we had considered all the scenarios, including the match going against us. That helped us and I think the most important thing is the team's conviction and belief in all situations".

Now, the national team has earned the right to fight for the title, after two all-or-nothing clashes against what the coach called “two totally different opponents in the last few games, ones who made us play differently. We thank them for demanding so much from us. Now, we have to keep improving to face the final against England or the Netherlands.

Names such as captain Álvaro Morata, Dani Olmo and veteran Jesús Navas received words of gratitude from Luis de la Fuente, who was the voice of the national team in front of a euphoric Spain: "We are proud that our country has taken to the streets to cheer Spain on and support this team: they are an example for the young people of our country", he said after the victory over the French.
