A few days ahead of what will mark a successful first year as Spain coach, Luis de la Fuente took questions from journalists on the eve of the first match of a challenging 2024 for Spain.

The coach from La Rioja was aiming high when asked about his team's prospects in the lead up to the European Championships, warning that "we’re going to fight to go as far as possible. I'm convinced that we'll be an even better team come June and that we'll be in the conversation to achieve something very important at the tournament".

Colombia are first up for Spain this Friday, and the coach highlights the strength of the Colombian side, who "are undefeated for two years, 17 games. They are a powerhouse and a team with many international stars.

They are a very strong team and they are going through a period of maximum confidence. Tomorrow's match will be very interesting.

London's Olympic Stadium will host the first game, with Brazil awaiting Spain at the Bernabeu on Tuesday: "We have two games against two very good opponents, this will help us to get our rhythm back and grow even more. We want to see what options we have and we're also thinking about looking after the players too, so that no one plays more than we think they should".

As such, Luis de la Fuente has revealed one of his keys to this important international window for the national team: "We have brought 26 players and our idea is that they all play," he said.
