A Colombia side spurred on by a two-year unbeaten run stand in Spain’s way as the National Team’s first major opponents of 2024 this Friday at London's Olympic Stadium. Rodrigo Hernández, one of the captains of the star-studded Spain team, expects it to be "a good game to watch for the fans. I'm personally very happy to be able to test our strengths against Colombia and Brazil.

The midfielder from Madrid is also happy to be back on the pitch where he made his debut in his glittering career in English football. Going into the match he is clear about his priorities, for the team captain it is now all about "leading the team to success as opposed to improving individual statistics. My objective is to win, and that means titles.

With less than three months to go before the start of the European Championships, the showpiece continental tournament is firmly in the national team’s sights and Rodrigo believes that "it's very good to arrive in Germany with the experience that this squad has and also with what the youngsters behind us can contribute. We have a very close group".

This squad cohesion, the talent of Spain's rising stars and with Rodrigo Hernández as one of the leaders, all mean Spain are flying high going into their first fixture of a year 2024 in which Spanish fans have a lot to look forward to.
