Luis de la Fuente: "We’ve got out feet on the ground"

The national coach appeared at the press conference following Spain's victory over Croatia.

"I'm very happy with the group´s work, the coaching staff and for the players, who are ambitious and very good," said national coach Luis de la Fuente at the press conference following Spain's 3-0 win over Croatia in their opener. Dazzling play that packed a punch saw the national team start the group stage of the European Championships in the best possible way, but this is only the beginning and the coach is clear: "We know what it is to start well, but we have our feet on the ground".

When the coach was asked about events on the pitch, he gave the following analysis: "I think we played a very complete game and we played very well in all phases of the game. We were solid and hard-hitting and when it was our turn to defend, we did it against one of the best teams in the world.

This is a European Championships and the demands are high, so we have to know how to use the momentum from winning three points to prepare for the match against Italy: "We're happy and motivated, but we're going to need to be better in the next game. That's the idea we're trying to take in.

Fabian Ruiz: "This result gives us a confidence boost".

The man of the match, Fabian Ruiz, was also in the press room. The Andalusian player marked his debut at the European Championships in Germany with a goal, an assist and, most importantly, the three points: "I think it was very important to start with a win because we had a very good team in front of us".

"We knew that by doing what the coach asked us to do and with our work we could hurt them. This result gives us a boost of confidence. Starting with a win is always important," said the MOTM from Spain-Croatia.
