MATCH SUMMARIES | Goal-filled night in the Copa del Rey

On the first day of the First Round of la Copa del Rey, eight thrilling matches delivered a total of 37 goals and saw the progression of Rayo Vallecano, Deportivo Alavés, Real Valladolid CF, Villarreal CF, Real Racing Club de Santander, Cádiz CF, Real Zaragoza, and Ourense CF.

On Wednesday night, we enjoyed 28 additional matches that brought 77 goals and several surprises. In the opening game, CE Europa eliminated Albacete Balompié from the Second Division. Many of the home teams, being the lower-tier sides in their matchups, found progress beyond them. We also witnessed several games going into extra time and two penalty shootouts: UE Olot - Córdoba CF, which went in favour of the team from Girona, and UM Escobedo - SD Ponferradina, where the team from El Bierzo prevailed.

Thursday kicked off with plenty of goals, 48 in total across twelve matches. UD Barbastro caused an upset by defeating a higher-tier team, SD Amorebieta, by a comfortable margin. RCD Espanyol de Barcelona also secured their place with a solid win, while Club Atletico de Madrid had a harder-fought victory. CD Minera, FC Andorra, Real Betis Balompié, UD Las Palmas, and Racing de Ferrol all joined the ranks of away team victors. Real Ávila CF advanced after clinching their progress in a penalty shootout. Three games were decided in extra time, with CD Estepona springing a surprise against Málaga CF, while CD Tenerife and CyD Leonesa achieved their goal of progressing in extra time.
