Montse Tomé: ‘We deserved more, we played to win’
After the defeat against England, Montse Tomé responded to the media by giving her views on the match: ‘My assessment, I think we deserved more. We tried in every way we could to open the scoring and we hit two crossbars and had 20 shots, England scored a goal without creating much. That's football, we performed at a high level, the team adapted to everything in front of them. We wanted to win and we played to win but we had a very good team in front of us in England, the current European champions and it was a great game, but we wanted more.
The lack of goalscoring was out of tune with Spain's play at Wembley and Montse Tomé recognised this: ‘We play football to score goals, today we hit the crossbar and we can’t accept this result. It's everyone's responsibility, mine too, of course. We're not going to see it as a problem, we're going to look for solutions. Soon, we play Portugal who are doing well and they will demand something different from us. We have to improve but we are on a good path.

The coach praised the performance of her players and regretted not having scored against England: ‘I feel we deserved more with the number of chances we had in the final third. The team started well, playing with pace. England spent a lot of time defending but that's football, we didn't manage to score. It was a top level game and we have to keep improving.
