The Spanish national team begins its defence of the UEFA Women's Nations League title against Belgium in Valencia. This is a very special trip for the national team, showing their support and solidarity with those affected by the storms last October. Montse Tomé, who already visited Paiporta a few days ago to announce her squad of players, appeared today before the media at the Ciutat de València.

She wanted to begin by acknowledging the towns and citizens most affected by the flooding that occurred months ago: "We are in Valencia, a city that has been through a lot in recent months. We have already visited Paiporta, and this is our way of reaching out to those families who have suffered. We need to stand by them, and we are happy that the proceeds raised will go towards rebuilding the Paiporta football pitch. We’re going for the three points."

Montse Tomé expressed her pride in the entire team: "We have 23 footballers who were born to play football, and that’s where their sole focus is. The team is happy, content, eager to compete, and eager to win. We have an ambitious team, with many options, and I see them looking happy in everything they do. They are transmitting very good energy to the coaching staff."

The coach emphasised, "We’re starting the Nations League’s campaign, something we are very eager about. We’re focused on Belgium and excited to talk about football. Our focus is on Belgium, who are playing their first match under a new coach. They are a very professional team, and we are excited to get out there."

Belgium is a team Spain has faced numerous times and one with potential to cause problems, but the Spanish internationals have the ability to handle whatever the Belgians present: "We expect Belgium to sit back. In our previous matches against them, they alternated between a five- and four-player defence, and we don’t know what they will do this time, but we’ve prepared for all situations. Our midfielders have great attacking ability, so we will focus on timing our runs and hope to start the game strong."

No matter how Belgium approach the match, the Asturian coach has full confidence in her central defenders, with four great players, including Irene Paredes, returning to the national team: "In our last few matches, we’ve played with different centre-backs. Right now, we have four exceptional central defenders who fit into Spain’s style of play well. We have a lot of competition. Irene Paredes is someone we know very well. She’s a very professional player who has expressed her desire to return to the national team.'"

Another key player Montse Tomé highlighted was Martín-Prieto, praising her goal-scoring potential: "Since changing leagues, she’s scored a lot of goals, which has really caught our attention. Since the Olympics, she has been with us, and she gives us a lot in the front line. She has a natural instinct for scoring goals inside the box."
