In the Wembley press room, Montse Tomé spoke to reporters the day before the exciting prospect of the match between England and Spain in the second UEFA Women's Nations League qualifier.

It is a perfect situation for the coach, ‘You don't have to think about tomorrow's game, you just play it. We've spoken to them, made the game plan, we can just go from there, everything else is about the stage we have to perform on, which is wonderful for them and for me too, they're very motivated. An extra motivation that you have to know how to control so that it plays in your favour: ‘They are footballers of the highest level, they were born to play football and their talent is there. Aitana also transmitted that desire and enthusiasm. You have to adjust your mindset to go into the game as well as possible. We have to have the tools to focus on what the game demands. We're capable of overcoming any situation, we've shown that on and off the pitch.

Spain face England, the same opponents as in the World Cup final won by Spain and Tomé took stock of the improvements made by the national team since then: ‘What we have in common is that Spain has a recognised model that we have been working on for a long time in the national team setup and we have players who can execute our style, it's our essence. We have players who can give us more depth, more support in central areas. It's something that we have maintained and strengthened. What we've been able to improve as a team is our collective defensive work, despite the fact that we can make some mistakes playing out of our own half and allow our opponents to create chances. The team is evolving. Spain continues growing and so do our opponents and we are seeing more competitive football’.

The clash between England and Spain will be of the highest level, the coach acknowledged: ‘It will be a top level match, between the World champions and the European champions, it has to be a beautiful spectacle of women's football. I expect a competitive match between two teams who want to win. It will be very, very competitive. We want to have the ball. The longer we have it, the better. We plan to play on the front foot, get into the box and score goals and that's what we'll be looking for tomorrow. England have a strong attacking game, a midfield that plays well, their right wing has a lot of attacking potential.... Sarina might be going to defend deep and attack on the break, they have already given us a clue...’.

What is clear is that at this stage of the competition there are no easy opponents: ‘We have a great team, we have great players who can play the football we want. We are playing in a Nations League with the best teams in Europe. Attacking low blocks is not easy. We generate a lot of chances and sometimes we don't score. We have to improve. Now, we have to play a great team, one of the best in the world. Every game at international level requires the best of us and we have to be very focused on the game’.
