On Friday, August 11th, at the Regional Stadium in Wellington, starting at 1:00 PM (3 in the morning of the same day in the Peninsula), the first quarterfinal match of the current World Cup will take place, featuring the national teams of Spain and Netherlands.

After Jorge Vilda's team's dazzling victory in the Round of 16, it was the Oranje’s turn to secure their ticket to the quarterfinals with a hard-fought victory against South Africa in Sydney.

The historical record between both quarterfinalists favors Spain with five victories, three draws, and two Dutch triumphs in the ten matches played to date.

Andries Jonker's team took an early lead in the quarterfinal thanks to a header goal from Jill Roord at nine minutes, but the African team responded with rapid and dangerous attacks that did not result in goals due to the valuable interventions by goalkeeper Daphne Van Domselaar, who was chosen as the best player of the match.

In the second half, a goal by Lineth Beerensteyn confirmed the Dutch team's qualification, whose most recent encounter against Spain was a qualifying match for the last Eurocup, where Spain secured a narrow victory in Marbella.
