PREVIEW | Objective: Top the group
Spain are looking to round off a perfect group stage in an Olympic Football Tournament with a clean sweep of victories for the first time since the Barcelona 1992 Games. The Olympic team managed to secure the win in what was a hard-fought victory by two goals to one against Uzbekistan in their opening match at the Tournament and beat the Dominican Republic by three goals to one last Saturday. So far, five players have scored goals in the Tournament: Marc Pubill, Sergio Gómez, Fermín López, Álex Baena and Miguel Gutiérrez.
Spain-Egypt, from 15.00 on RTVE and Eurosport
With their progression in the quarter-finals already sealed, Santi Denia's team will be looking to finish top of the group, for which a point against Egypt would be enough. The national team coach will not be able to count on the suspended Pau Cubarsí who was a starter in the first two matches. The coach analysed his team's form ahead of the game: ‘We're going to try to put out the best team possible and make everyone in the squad feel important. I'm delighted with this group, they're working phenomenally hard and those who play will be fine.
Spain and Japan are the only teams to have qualified for the quarter-finals after the second round of matches in the Olympic Football Tournament.
Egypt are going into the final group match in second place with four points from a goalless draw against Dominican Republic and a one goal to nil win over Uzbekistan. They will once again be a tough opponent with great physical strength in a match that will be played in intense heat with temperatures expected to be close to 40 degrees Celsius.
Canadian international referee Drew Fischer has been appointed to referee the match. The Stade de Bordeaux, with a capacity of 42,000, will once again host the match. Last Saturday there was a great atmosphere in the stands with a large number of Spanish fans cheering on Santi Denia's team. The match can be followed from Spain on RTVE and Eurosport.
