OFFICIAL | Montse Tomé announces squad for Portugal double-header

These are the names of the 23 players selected by Montse Tomé to play the double-header against the Portuguese National Team in the UEFA Women’s Nations League qualifiers.

The training camp will begin next Monday, 31st March when players are expected to arrive in the afternoon at the Ciudad del Fútbol de Las Rozas. There, they are set to start preparing for the upcoming matches against Portugal, the current leaders of Group A3. Both matches are absolutely crucial. The first encounter takes place at the Estádio Capital do Móvel in Paços de Ferreira on Friday, 4th April, at 20:45 local time. The second leg is to be played at home, at the Estadio Abanca Balaídos in Vigo, on Tuesday, 8th April, at 19:00. Both matches will be broadcast live on La 2, TVE.

As the reigning champions of the tournament, Spain will aim to take a decisive step towards qualification. To this end, Montse Tomé has announced her squad for the upcoming fixtures in a unique way: by paying tribute to Galician women in the fishing industry.

The connection between the sea and the football pitch, as well as the hard work of both fishing industry professionals and footballers, made for an emotional squad announcement. The names of the squad were revealed by María Dolores Álvarez (a shellfish harvester), Pilar Nogueira (a net maker), Marta Franco (a boat captain), and María Muíños (a fish market worker). For the announcement, the beach of Moaña, the port of O Berbés, the port of Canido, and its fish market were the chosen locations for unveiling the 23-player squad.

The head coach will address the media at 12:00 in the press room at Balaídos.
