Sonia Bermúdez: “We are very happy with the team’s work”
Sonia Bermúdez addressed journalists in the press room at Gamla Ullevi in Gothenburg after securing Spain’s win and booking a place in the UWNL final, the national team’s second consecutive final and their second in just four months.
The coach expressed her satisfaction after reaching the final and defeating Sweden on their home ground: “We are happy with the team’s work. We could have been more fluid at times, but overall we are satisfied. Five goals scored, none conceded — that’s positive. We would have liked to be more incisive; there were moments where it was a bit tougher. The team was very well organised. We weren’t as fluid in attack, but it’s a Nations League semi-final, they are playing at home… even so, I’m pleased because the team adapted to the circumstances.”

The coaching staff, led by Bermúdez, has full confidence in the squad: “We trust every player; otherwise, they wouldn’t be here. They are adapting to our playing philosophy and our messages. Reaching a final is not easy; we wanted to win. Going away to face the third-best team in the world can be challenging. We are also very pleased with the debut of Clara Serrajordi, who played her first match at 17.”
On the performance of the top scorer, Bermúdez reflected: “Alexia is adapting to her new role. She is contributing positively and scoring goals… we don’t demand it, but we are happy with her work in this new position — she’s doing well.”
