PREVIEW | The Copa del Rey Magic Lights Up Final Three Days of October

The Copa del Rey MAPFRE kicks off with the first round, the most inclusive in its century-long history, with 110 teams and millions of fans expected to enjoy the magic of the cup this week.

La Nueva Balastera in Palencia and Vero Boquete-San Lázaro in Santiago will be the first two stadiums buzzing with cup fever, with live television broadcasts this Tuesday at 19:00 on Movistar. The Royal Spanish Football Federation’s official channels will follow the action closely, bringing all the excitement from the stands to the online world during these final three days of October, with live scores, incidents, photos, and match highlights from the 55 games in this first round.

110 teams are participating – with Athletic, Real Madrid, Mallorca, FC Barcelona, and RC Deportivo exempt – representing all levels of Spanish football, from La Liga down to local and regional leagues. This paints a full picture of football in Spain, with the Copq del Rey as the sport’s flagship competition.

The first instalment of this massive single-legged elimination round begins on Tuesday, 29 October, with eight match-ups, where lower-division teams always play at home and any draws go to extra time and a penalty shootout to decide the winner.

In total, 23 matches will be televised live via Movistar, Teledeporte, and regional channels in Galicia, Aragón, and Castilla-La Mancha. This Wednesday will be the main day of action, with 32 matches to be played. All games from the round will be available through this official channel.
