Atlético de Madrid, Real Madrid, Real Sociedad and FC Barcelona are the four semi-finalists in the Copa del Rey MAPFRE after a thrilling quarter-final round, played between Tuesday 4 and Thursday 6 February, that saw 17 goals scored. The four teams that will fight for the title have a combined total of 64 Copa del Rey titles between them and will find out their opponents for the two-legged semi-final in the draw that will take place next Wednesday 12 February at 13.00 hours.

REAL SOCIEDAD 2-0 CA OSASUNA

The match started with pace and intensity as both teams fought for every ball in their efforts to control play. The first chances came from Budimir and Aimar for the away side, but it was Real who struck first with a goal from Barrene who opened the scoring in the 21st minute. From then on, La Real took advantage of their momentum and, spurred on by their home crowd, went in search of a second. As a result of the pressure on the opposition's defence, the goal came through Brais Méndez, who scored after an assist from Oyarzabal. With a two-goal advantage and the sending off of Catena, which left Osasuna down to ten men moments later, the game was very much in Imanol Alguacil's side's favour.

In the second half Osasuna tried all they could but were unable to overcome the first half blows that decided the tie for a home team that controlled the game from then on. The scoreboard remained unchanged and Real Sociedad, after winning the competition in 2020, will play in the Cup semi-finals for the second year in a row.

VALENCIA CF 0-5 FC BARCELONA

One of the Copa del Rey classics in Spanish football rounded off the Copa quarter-finals at Mestalla. In the first shot on target of the match Ferran Torres gave FC Barcelona the lead with a cross-cum-shot. The game was dominated by the visitors, who put away the chances they had and by the half hour mark they were leading by four goals to nil. Ferran scored the second in the 17th minute when he took advantage of a rebound in the area. Fermín took advantage of a great pass from Pedri to score the third and Ferran completed his hat-trick with a right-footed strike from outside the area.

After the restart came the fifth goal for FC Barcelona, scored by Lamine Yamal in the 59th minute of the game. With the score at 0-5, the final whistle blew. The most successful team in the competition’s history returns to the semi-finals two years after their last appearance. They now move into a round in which they have participated in 10 of the last 15 editions of the Copa del Rey.

The draw for the semi-finals will take place on Wednesday 12 February at 13.00.
