Resounding support from the RFEF president for referees: "They deserve our respect, affection and admiration"
Rafael Louzán warns about the increase in the number of assaults and acts of harassment against referees: "We must all contribute to eradicating violence"
Spanish refereeing received the firm backing of the president of the RFEF this Tuesday during his participation in the Sports Breakfasts organised in Madrid by the news agency Europa Press.
In front of a large gathering of sports and political figures, Rafael Louzán stated that "the work of referees must be extraordinarily valued and it is a mistake to speculate about the motivations of one referee or another. It is something that has a very negative impact not only on professional football but also on youth football, where there is more aggression and verbal violence to the point where we must ask ourselves what we are doing."
The image of the brutal assault recently suffered by a futsal referee in the province of Guadalajara served for the president of the RFEF to raise awareness about the scourge of violent attacks on referees, calling for a social commitment to "contribute together so that the opposite happens, so that violence is eradicated."
Rafael Louzán will meet this Friday with Spanish referees, as he has done since his election through committees such as the one aimed at reforming the refereeing system, but he took the opportunity of Tuesday's meeting to "very sincerely thank the involvement and commitment of the refereeing community, of the men and women in this country who go out to venues of seventy thousand spectators sometimes, five people at other times, but always with the intention of doing an extraordinary job. They make mistakes and will continue to make mistakes, but they deserve our respect, affection and admiration."
Support which the president of the RFEF extends to Spanish football as a whole for referees, male and female, "with whom we work hand in hand and for whom I ask everyone to be responsible in their actions and thus allow match officials to fulfil their role of delivering fairness out on the pitch," he concluded this Tuesday before those gathered at the informative breakfast.
