After completing the recovery session following yesterday’s 1-3 win over Italy, sealing top spot and a perfect record in the group stage, Salma spoke to the press in the Juan Antonio Samaranch media room to comment on the team’s scoring prowess, with 14 goals in two matches: "I think it says a lot about the team, we’re feeling really good, and we’ve achieved our first aim, which was winning all three matches."

Salma also pointed out the key factor behind their success: the unity of the group. "The group is very united, very switched on. Whether you start or come off the bench, you can be important. All of us being ready for our moment is important and can make the difference."

Regarding her position on the pitch and her versatility, she said: "I’ve always played on the left wing since I was little, so that might come more naturally to me, but I’m learning from all three positions up front and trying to make the most of them. When it’s time to change position, you have to switch your mindset quickly and adapt to the role you’re asked to play at any given moment in the match."

Switzerland, the host nation, are Spain’s next opponents in the quarter-finals, and for Salma "it’s going to be a great match, there will definitely be a lot of people, a lot of support, but we’re focused on ourselves. Now the real Euros begins. These are different matches that will be decided by small details."

One of the details that makes the difference for Spain is their high press after losing the ball and the forwards’ work in defence too: "Those of us up top are really focused on pressing. We’re working well technically and tactically."

Now, with the job done before turning focus to the quarter-finals, it’s time for a breather: "It’s important to disconnect. We’re putting together the plan and we’ve got a day to enjoy ourselves and have fun off the pitch too. This day off is going to give us life and then we’ll start thinking about the Switzerland match, because in seven days we’ve got our first final."

And to compete at this level, they count on Vicky, whom Salma considers "like a little sister to me. I tell her to go out there, enjoy herself, and we’re really seeing a lot of that Vicky." Not only her, we are seeing a lot from everyone and that keeps us walking towards our European dream.
