12 October 2024 will forever remain in the memory of Sergio Gómez. The Real Sociedad player, when the match was entering its final minutes, stepped out onto the pitch at the Enrique Roca in Murcia. In doing so, he became yet another Spanish debutant in the Luis de la Fuente era.
Gómez, already an Olympic champion at Paris 2024, came on in the 90th minute to replace Lamine Yamal, his first moments in a senior Spanish red shirt, a shirt that will, no doubt, take pride of place in his collection. With the number 19 on his back, the Catalan got his first taste of playing with the European champions as a reward for his great start to the season.
