Athletic Club, Real Madrid CF, RCD Mallorca, and FC Barcelona are set to capture the attention of the football world until Sunday with a spectacular edition of the Spanish Super Cup.

The successful "final four" format, now a modern classic among the world’s most prominent sporting events, arrives for its sixth edition this year, returning to the venue where it all began.

The Spanish Super Cup is a massive global sporting event, but it also brings with it numerous international collaboration initiatives and development in areas such as advancing women's football.

In January 2020, the beautiful city of Jeddah, a UNESCO World Heritage site, hosted the first edition of the Super Cup that brought together the Copa del Rey and La Liga champions as well as the runners-up. Five years on, the colossal tournament returns to the shores of the Red Sea, with four teams eager to lift the trophy, and with the two teams from the first final of this decade once again featuring in the competition’s opening match.

Athletic Club and FC Barcelona are already in the Saudi city ahead of the first semi-final, scheduled for Wednesday, January 8, at the Al Jawhara Stadium, starting at 20:00 Spanish mainland time, with live coverage on Movistar Plus+.

From a competitive perspective, the 2025 edition introduces the novelty that no extra time will be played, easing the workload on the players and ensuring the highest possible level of play.

The same platform will broadcast the second semi-final, which Real Madrid CF and RCD Mallorca will contest on Thursday, January 9, with a clash between the team with the most titles in the current format and the debutants in the "final four" model.

This feast of football leads to the grand final on Sunday, always at 8:00 PM in the same venue, with comprehensive coverage via the the Royal Spanish Football Federation's official media, which will provide all the details on the matches, pre-match coverage, the best stories of the players, and the collaborative and developmental efforts in areas like the advancement of women’s football in Saudi Arabia, a theme that is closely tied to a tournament of this stature.
