The President of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Rafael Louzán, has embarked on a trip to Uruguay and Argentina with the aim of strengthening ties and forging closer collaboration with both national football federations as part of a new World Cup preparation phase for the RFEF. It is worth noting that Uruguay and Argentina, together with Paraguay, will host the opening matches of the 2030 FIFA World Cup. This is to mark the centenary of the inaugural World Cup, held in Uruguay, as the tournament begins in these nations before continuing in Morocco, Portugal, and Spain.

During his trip to South America, the President of the RFEF is meeting with the heads of the Argentine and Uruguayan federations, Claudio Tapia and Ignacio Alonso Labat. The meeting with Alonso Labat has already taken place, and tomorrow he will meet with his counterpart in Argentina.

Notably, Uruguay and Argentina contested the final of the first-ever FIFA World Cup, held on 30 July 1930 at the Centenario Stadium in Uruguay’s capital, Montevideo.

Since being elected President of the Royal Spanish Football Federation in December of last year, Rafael Louzán has prioritised communication and strengthening ties with the institutions that will shape the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
