This Saturday, the historic cloisters at the Huesca Museum hosted the institutional meeting ahead of the grand final of the Copa de SM la Reina, which in the 2024-2025 edition features FC Barcelona and Club Atlético de Madrid.

Representing the institutions involved in the celebration of Spanish women’s football were the mayor of Huesca, Lorena Orduna, along with RFEF president Rafael Louzán, as hosts of the tournament; the general director of sports of the Government of Aragón, Cristina García Torres; FC Barcelona president, Joan Laporta; Atlético de Madrid’s director of women’s football, Dolores Romero; president of the Royal Aragonese Football Federation, Manuel Torralba; as well as the vice-president of the RFEF, Sergio Merchán.

On behalf of the city of Huesca, Lorena Orduna thanked “the trust of the Royal Spanish Football Federation and of Spanish football for choosing Huesca as the host of the Copa de la Reina final. Thank you all for visiting our home.”

Additionally, the gathering at the Aragón Museum served to honour the clubs that have won the Copa de la Reina over its more than forty-year history, as well as several of their most outstanding players in the finals of the competition.

Thus, replicas of the trophy were awarded to: Inmaculada Castañón, winner with Karbo Deportivo; María Vargas, winner with Parque Alcobendas and Oroquieta; Maria Teresa Andreu, winner with FC Barcelona; Mari Paz Vilas, winner with RCD Espanyol, FC Barcelona and Levante UD; Adriana Martín, winner with Espanyol; Sonia Bermúdez, winner with Rayo Vallecano, FC Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid; and Virginia Torrecilla, winner with Atlético de Madrid and FC Barcelona. Among the attendees were also the ambassadors of this edition of the  Copa de la Reina, Spanish national team players Amanda Sampedro and Vicky Losada.

The exchange of commemorative gifts for the Copa de SM la Reina Iberdrola final preceded a traditional Aragonese dance performance, with lyrics personalised in tribute to the participating teams. All of this took place before the sports, political and social dignitaries present at the great event of Spanish women’s football headed to El Alcoraz to enjoy the Cup final.

At the Huesca stadium, Rafael Louzán presented a Spanish national team shirt to the Aragonese president, Jorge Azcón, and also welcomed the Minister of Equality of the Government of Spain, Ana Redondo, who were both attending the match from which the champions of the Copa de la Reina Iberdrola would emerge.
