Ángel María Villar: “Se nos ha ido el más grande”

El presidente de la RFEF, D. Ángel María Villar, lamenta la pérdida de Alfredo Di Stéfano, al que califica como "el mejor jugador de la historia"

“El fútbol está hoy de luto. El fallecimiento de Alfredo Di Stéfano nos deja huérfanos de quien para muchos, entre los que me encuentro, ha sido el mejor jugador de la historia, un futbolista colosal en torno al que se construyeron equipos irrepetibles, el River Plate, el Millonarios de Bogotá y el Real Madrid. También la selección argentina de comienzos de los cincuenta y la de España, a la que representó largamente, desde mediada esa década a comienzos de los 60. Con España viajó al Mundial de Chile (1962), que no disputó por lesión.

Di Stéfano ha representado todos aquellos valores que pueden pedirse en este deporte de tanta exigencia y en el que fue extraordinariamente exigente, probablemente el que más. Alfredo añadió a sus fabulosas dotes como futbolista un carácter excepcional y una inmensa personalidad. Fue el primero entre los que más sufrieron, pero, también, el primero en generosidad. Su esfuerzo y su calidad fueron siempre de la mano hasta la formación de un jugador primoroso en cualquiera de las zonas del campo que pisó. Era defensa cuando había que serlo, centrocampista organizador por tendencia natural y goleador sumamente certero. Eso dio forma al futbolista total que fue.

El fútbol moderno no sería lo que es sin el nacimiento de Di Stéfano, el primero en moverse por espacios amplísimos de terreno. Llevaba el sacrificio en sus venas y la luz de un juego primoroso en la cabeza. Decía siempre que había que jugar con ella y desde ella hacer que corriera el balón. Su incontable relación de triunfos habla por sí sola, y mejor que nada ni nadie, de quien nos ha dejado hoy, 7 de julio de 2014. Lo ganó prácticamente todo.

Entrenador de gran éxito, presidente y presidente honorario de la Asociación Española de Futbolistas Internacionales, gran conversador, amigo y consejero de la RFEF, Di Stéfano siempre demostró un gran afecto hacia la Real Federación Española de Fútbol y hacia sus dirigentes. Enriqueció enormemente el fútbol español, que nunca habría dado el salto que dio mediado el siglo XX de no haber sido por él. Su irrepetible figura ha tenido una influencia trascendental en la historia de nuestro deporte y de la que ha sido su gran familia. Todos lloramos amargamente su pérdida.

Se nos ha ido el más grande. Descanse en paz ”.
