Clone of Queens Keep the Crown (2–0)

FC Barcelona continued their love affair with the competition by lifting their sixth Supercopa title — the fifth in a row — in Castellón.

There’s no four without five… and no five without six. With Saturday’s victory, FC Barcelona cemented their status as the most successful club in the history of the Iberdrola Women’s Supercopa.

A crisp, chilly evening at Castalia set the stage for the season’s first piece of silverware, as Barcelona and Real Madrid went head-to-head in a special Clásico. In front of a packed stadium, it was once again the blaugrana who emerged victorious.

Ewa Pajor sounded the first warning just four minutes in with a surging run down the flank, before Barça settled into their trademark possession game. Clear chances were initially scarce, while Real Madrid looked to push higher up the pitch through Athenea del Castillo and Linda Caicedo during the opening quarter-hour.

The deadlock was finally broken by Vicky López, who injected urgency into a tight, midfield-heavy contest. Her effort forced a superb save from Misa Rodríguez and led directly to the opening goal: Esmee Brugts rose highest to head home from the resulting corner in the 28th minute.

Madrid threatened through Linda and Athenea, but Barça remained on top. López again burst through the centre to win another corner, from which Pajor went close just before the break. The clearest Madrid chance of the half fell to Sara Däbritz, whose fierce strike crashed against the woodwork, denying the Whites an equaliser before half-time.

After the restart, both sides cautiously sized each other up. Barcelona pushed for a second, while Madrid searched for a way back through their most dangerous outlets. The Catalans came agonisingly close with a double chance, including a Hansen effort that rattled the post in the 57th minute.

Barça began to turn the screw. Ona Batlle tried her luck from distance, Claudia Pina tested Misa again, and another Pina header drifted narrowly over following a teasing cross from López. Madrid reshuffled with a triple substitution, but the pressure remained.

Misa Rodríguez continued to shine, denying Alexia Putellas and later winning a one-on-one battle with Pajor as the clock ticked down. Yet resistance was finally broken deep into stoppage time.

With the match entering the 90th minute, referee Eugenia Gil pointed to the spot after Sheila García brought down Alexia inside the area. The Barça captain stepped up and calmly dispatched the penalty, sealing the final.

Barcelona claimed a 2–0 win in the Supercopa final and carried their sixth Iberdrola Women’s Supercopa trophy back to the cabinet — the queens very much still on the throne.
