Rafael Louzán Meets with the President of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria in Las Palmas

“Welcome home.” With these warm words of welcome, Antonio Morales Méndez, President of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, thanked Rafael Louzán for his presence on the island, as the RFEF president began his visit to Las Palmas this Friday to mark the first century of the RFIFLP.

Earlier, the RFEF president took part in the ‘A Century Beating with Football’ event in the capital of Gran Canaria, alongside RFIFLP President José Juan Arencibia, Canary Islands Regional Minister for Sport Poli Suárez and Gran Canaria Cabildo Councillor for Sport Aridany Romero.

During his address, Rafael Louzán expressed his determination **“to continue growing together. As RFEF president, I feel proud when I see the streets and squares of the Canary Islands, like those throughout Spain, celebrating the World Cup triumph. This victory has given us all immense joy, and now we have a great opportunity with the organisation of the 2030 World Cup, for which Gran Canaria will be an important host thanks to the unity of the different administrations and the work of the president of the regional federation to make it a reality.”

In this regard, the President of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria highlighted “the commitment the RFEF president has always shown to ensuring that the Canary Islands are involved in hosting a World Cup, something historic given that this is an extra-peninsular territory. Gran Canaria Stadium will become an architectural landmark, and the necessary deadlines and requirements will be met. This will provide a major boost to sport and wider society.”

The RFEF president echoed that commitment, thanking the Cabildo for **“its efforts and its institutional cooperation beyond political differences. We have the challenge ahead of us of organising the best World Cup in history, and we will achieve it through the work of many people. Our responsibility is to leave the best possible legacy for everyone who will be here in a hundred years,” he stated.

A major gala at the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium this Sunday will recognise the work of individuals and institutions in support of football in Gran Canaria. The island’s football community will celebrate on the very day that the Royal Inter-Island Football Federation of Las Palmas reaches its first 100 years of existence.
