Rafael Louzán Presides Over Institutional Event in Castellón Ahead of Spain v Iceland
The President of the Real Federación Española de Fútbol accompanied the Spain women’s national team in Castellón, where they are playing their first fixture of the calendar year.
In a landmark week for the city, as Castellón celebrates the start of the Fiestas de la Magdalena, Spain’s World Cup qualifying clash against Iceland lights up the Castalia Stadium this Tuesday. The match marks the beginning of the competitive year for the side coached by Sonia Bermúdez on their road to the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
Hours before kick-off, the Real Casino Antiguo de Castellón hosted the official institutional luncheon attended by civil and sporting representatives. During the event, Rafael Louzán presented commemorative gifts to mark the occasion.
Louzán exchanged national team shirts with his Icelandic counterpart, Þorvaldur Örlygsson, ahead of what will be the sixth meeting between the two sides.
The RFEF president then presented a commemorative plaque for the match to a number of dignitaries, including:

Having lifted the UEFA Women’s Nations League title on 2 December, Spain now begin their journey towards the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil this Tuesday at 7:00pm (CET, live on La1). The national team aim to defend their world title, as well as maintain the number one position they currently hold in the FIFA World Ranking.
