Rafael Louzán attends APF General Assembly in Paraguay as Guest of Honour
The president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Rafael Louzán, attended the Ordinary General Assembly of the Paraguayan Football Association (APF) in Luque as guest of honour.
During his visit to Paraguay, Louzán also held a meeting with his counterpart Robert Harrison, president of the APF, highlighting the growing cooperation between two federations representing host nations of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
Prior to the assembly, Louzán visited the National Congress Palace in Asunción. The APF General Assembly approved the annual financial report and formally presented the organisation’s accounts for the previous fiscal year.
The meeting was also attended virtually by FIFA president Gianni Infantino and CONMEBOL president Alejandro Domínguez.
Paraguay’s national team is set to return to the FIFA World Cup finals this June after missing out on qualification for three consecutive editions. Their most recent World Cup appearance came at South Africa 2010, where they reached the quarter-finals and faced Spain, who currently top the FIFA world rankings.
Spain and Paraguay share deep historical, cultural and linguistic ties, which are set to grow even stronger through the joint organisation of the 2030 World Cup. Spain will host the majority of the tournament’s matches, while the opening fixtures will be staged in Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay. The historic edition will bring together six nations across three continents, with both federations already working closely in preparation for the global event.
