The National Team Lights Up Castellón
Ready to add to the atmosphere of the Magdalena festivities and bring footballing brilliance to the Castalia pitch, Spain’s internationals are now in Castellón, where they begin their road to Brazil 2027 tomorrow.
The squad departed the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas at 3:00pm and travelled to Castellón by plane, landing at 5:20pm in overcast and rainy conditions. From there, they continued by coach to Benicàssim, where they will stay ahead of the first qualifying fixture in Group A3 against Iceland.
Kick-off is at 7:00pm at the SkyFi Castalia Stadium, with Spain aiming to secure their first three points of the campaign in a qualification round that will determine who earns a place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil — a tournament where Sonia Bermúdez’s side hope to defend the title they won in Australia and New Zealand in 2023.
Castellón is already in festive mood as it celebrates its major Magdalena festivities — and from today, the national team adds to the excitement, helping to ignite the atmosphere even further.
Head coach Sonia Bermúdez and Mariona Caldentey travelled directly to the stadium upon arrival to deliver the official pre-match press conference ahead of Tuesday’s Spain v Iceland fixture.
