In a rematch of last year’s Women’s World Cup final in Australia and New Zealand, the showdown that will see Spain, the World Champions, take on England, the European Champions—the MATCH of all MATCHES…

On the hallowed turf of Wembley stadium, the Spanish team will be looking to maintain their top spot in Group A3, secured after a comeback victory against Belgium in their opening match. However, the most exciting aspect of all is the one taking place in this iconic stadium. Everything about it is mystical, historic, legendary… That’s why both the players and the coaching staff know that tonight is no ordinary match. Montse Tomé referred to these kinds of games, saying: “You don’t overthink them, you just play them,” while Aitana Bonmatí highlighted the excitement leading up to it: “These are the matches you love to play, the ones you think about for nights beforehand.”

The two teams have faced each other 17 times, with four victories for Spain, six draws, and seven defeats.

Two powerhouses of women’s football, both in Europe and on the world stage, go head-to-head—two teams eager to prove themselves once again, given their past victories and defeats against one another. In the pre-match build-up, Bonmatí spoke about England’s likely desire for redemption after Spain denied them the World Cup trophy: “Losing a World Cup final is painful. The journey to the final is long and tough. I would want revenge too.” However, Spain also know what it’s like to suffer at England’s hands—most notably in the quarter-finals of the 2022 Euros, where the Lionesses knocked them out before going on to lift the trophy.

Since then, Spain have been crowned World Champions and also won the first-ever UEFA Women’s Nations League, the very competition in which they now meet again in the second match of the qualifying stage. Both teams arrive in differing form: while Spain picked up three points with their spectacular comeback victory against Belgium, England could only manage a draw against Portugal.

The match will be broadcast live from 9:00 PM on La 2, TVE.

This marks the Spanish national team’s first-ever visit to Wembley, a stadium that has witnessed some of the most historic moments in football. A ground where, as one of its famous signs reads, “players walk in and legends walk out.” Tonight, England and Spain take to the pitch once more to write the next chapter in Wembley’s storied history.
