The new year begins with crucial UEFA Women's Nations League qualifiers and the UEFA European Championships in Switzerland this coming summer. So to get the momentum, energy and encouragement for all that is to come, there is nothing better than being surrounded by the love of your fans. And that is just what the national team did this afternoon at La Ciudad del Fútbol.

Pitch A opened its stands to all the fans who wanted to come and experience first-hand what training is like and see their favourite players under the orders of Montse Tomé and her coaching staff. It was the first training session of the year and the first of the training international window, and what a way to kick off! The fact is that two key matches await Spain in this window as they begin their defence of the title as Nations League champions. The qualification phase begins with an opener against Belgium on Friday 21 at the Ciutat de València at 18:45h (La 2, TVE), with the second match against England at Wembley on Wednesday 26 at 21:00h (La 2, TVE).

The fans, enjoying a warm winter's afternoon, were able to see how the internationals worked out, how they trained and the intensity they put into every moment. At the end of the session, the players took the time to take photos with their supporters and sign everything from T-shirts to books, scarves and banners.

The sparkle in the eyes of many of these children was special at the end of the training session, as well as that of the players and the coaching staff after receiving so much affection. An affection that the national team also wants to give back to the Valencian people in solidarity with those affected by last October's floods. After announcing the squad from one of the last schools able to get back to normality, the Ausiàs March of Paiporta and touring the area, on Friday, they will return to Valencia and with all the proceeds from the match going to the victims of the terrible floods.
