CUP PREVIEW | A week of excitement, presents and the magic of the Cup

Over the next five days, the passion of the Copa del Rey will join the magic of these festive dates to offer up to all Spanish football lovers a thrilling third installment of this knockout tournament.

The excitement, celebrations and gifts can be enjoyed early in what is a traditionally important week across the country. The Round of 32 comes in the form of the first gift of the year and as a prelude to the visit of The Three Kings.

The first knockout round of 2025 will also feature the four teams taking part in the Spanish Super Cup, played from 8 to 12 January in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia). Between 3 and 7 January, the 32 teams still in contention go into the third round of the most historical tournament in Spanish football, the Copa del Rey, with the ambition of continuing to advance and move closer, step by step, towards the final.

Athletic Club, Real Madrid, RCD Mallorca and FC Barcelona make their debuts in this year's cup.

The 16 single-leg ties kick off this Friday at 19:00 in Pontevedra, Granada and Ferrol with the following matches: Pontevedra CF - RCD Mallorca, Granada CF - Getafe CF and Racing Club Ferrol - Rayo Vallecano de Madrid. These will be the first games of an exciting round which will conclude on Tuesday 7 January at the Nuevo Pepico Amat with the regional derby between CD Eldense and Valencia CF.

If there is one thing that characterises the Copa del Rey, it is the excitement and enthusiasm that it arouses among fans all over Spain. Places such as Llano del Beal, Barbastro, Pontevedra, Logroño, Marbella, Ourense and Ponferrada will be supporting their teams and their stadiums will be sold out to welcome some of the best teams in the country and in Europe to their stadiums.
