Dani Olmo marks a golden five-years with Spain
From Cadiz to Copenhagen, from 15 November 2019 to the same date in 2024. Five years and forty matches later, Dani Olmo pulled on the Spanish captain’s armband at the Parken stadium last Friday, the scene of a new footballing exhibition by the Catalan footballer.
At 26 years of age and recently returned to FC Barcelona, the club where he trained before moving to the Croatian and German leagues, the player from Egarrea admits to enjoying his best form as a professional, while aesthetically he has extended the shine of his game to his haircut, creating a trend even among youngsters.
‘It's a pride and a dream come true to have the opportunity to wear the Spanish national team shirt in every game and to be able to represent your country with the same motivation as the first day’, explains Olmo, who remembers the day of his debut and the affectionate gesture given to him that day by Álvaro Morata in the capital of Cadiz.
The running total is now eleven goals scored by the Spanish international in forty games, some as important as the one against Germany in the quarter-finals of the last European Championships, in which Olmo was also key in clearing off the line in the last moments of the final against England.
The key to all the successes of this national team lies for the Catalan ‘in the unity of a team that is a family off the pitch and that is reflected on the pitch. Now we're not going to stop until the World Cup and we'll always go out and give it our all,’ says Spain's visibly happy recent captain.
