After Monday’s training session, already focused and centred on the quarter-final clash against Switzerland, Jana Fernández took questions from journalists. Looking ahead to the quarters, to which the team arrives in top form, she commented: "Three wins from three games, the team is confident, and very united, we get on really well and it shows on the pitch. In the quarters, we face a Switzerland side that will be backed by a strong fan base. We’ll have to wait a few days, but we’re very motivated and eager for Friday to come. We’re very clear on our objective."

On her personal and sporting moment, she said she is  "very happy, I’m in a very happy time in my life, one of the happiest. Football is going really well, personally too, and I’m getting more minutes. Playing with these players in the European Championships, my first major tournament – it’s a dream, and I’m really enjoying each day. If you had asked me a few years ago when I came out of surgery on my ACL... Life sometimes brings you wonderful things like this, and I want to cherish this memory. I’m very aware, and in every minute and every training session I try to give my best – that’s how I live it. And I’m making the most of every second with my teammates. When they called me up, I phoned my parents and started crying – those injuries are tough and three years ago, it was unthinkable for us that I could be here. It’s been super special and I truly value being here."

And in that dream, Jana especially highlights the great atmosphere among all the players, on and off the pitch: "The atmosphere is really good, I come from a club with many representatives in the squad, I’m with many club teammates, and the perfect mix of Spanish players who deserve to be here – there’s a really great vibe. The atmosphere between the players and staff is clear for all to see, the way we all contribute wherever we are – let’s keep it that way."

It’s a very special competition for Alexia after missing the last Euros due to injury: "If anyone is motivated, it’s her. We all came here with a lot of motivation, but Alexia even more so because of what happened at the last Euros. She gives us a lot both on and off the pitch. She’s surrounded by the best people to show 100% of her game. Hopefully it continues this way – what’s good for her is good for Spain."

The defender from Martorell is excited for what’s to come, but takes it with humility, calmness, and a cool head: "We’re really taking things day by day, which is good and keeps us grounded. We try to brush it off when people say we’re favourites. I’m a massive believer in what this team can do, what we know and what we’re capable of. If we show how good we are, few opponents will be able to stop us. Every knockout match is do-or-die."

To win this competition, Jana is clear that everyone plays a part: "We’re all teammates, many of us are friends, and we’re there in both the good and bad moments. We’re all trying to contribute whatever our role is. There are 23 of us and all 23 are needed to reach the final and lift the trophy – which is what we all want."

Regarding the opposition and the atmosphere of the Swiss crowd: "It’s really lovely, it’s very emotional to see how the Swiss players are experiencing their support. We’re very motivated to play against the host nation and proud to see such a following for women’s football. We’re enjoying it a lot too when we see it from the outside. The team is motivated because it will be a beautiful setting. It will be tough for us emotionally, as the crowd could help them. But our fans will be there too, and we’ll try to play against the crowd too – it’ll be extra motivation for us to win."

Without a doubt, for the FC Barcelona defender, "The best part is the time with my teammates, the coffee breaks, the chats about life, and also the amazing venues we’re seeing – they give you goosebumps. There are also tougher moments – there’s a lot of time in the hotel, very focused, a bit of pressure – but we try to forget that. We like to spend our free time before lunch or in the afternoons all together, to ease that pressure and take our minds off things – spending time at the pool, sunbathing, playing board games, listening to music..."
