With the team’s objective achieved, Montse Tomé sat in the RCDE Stadium press room after the comeback against England (2-1) that saw her team through to the final stages of the UEFA Women's Nations League alongside Germany, France and Sweden. This is how Montse analysed the group phase: "In every match we’ve seen a Spain that resembles what we want as a national team with certain nuances depending on the opponent. It hasn’t been easy with the teams we played. In the group was England, who are a top national side. We showed our best version and the players had a brilliant group stage. We’re happy with this last international window and with the current form we are in, they arrived here in good shape."

Claudia Pina, who came on in the second half and scored both goals, attracted a special mention from the coach as "a player with very good qualities, who has been scoring goals since she joined the group. Maybe she hadn’t played as many minutes before, but this year she’s taken an important step forward at her club and it shows. In this match we wanted her to come on as an impact player and she really helped her team with her goals. She has a brilliant attitude. She accepts her role. Against Belgium she started and here she waited her turn like anyone else. That’s what we want. They’re becoming a real team."

Regarding the build up to the Euros, "we’ve seen a very competitive national team, with players full of ambition," reflected Montse, who also referred to the comebacks the team has achieved: "This trend of coming from behind is something the team has repeated. We like to take the lead from the start and have more control, but it doesn’t always go as you want, yet the team always has a response."

If there’s one thing above all else to highlight about this team, it’s their goalscoring ability, with 21 goals scored in these six matches: "Spain has recorded a significant goalscoring tally, one of the highest-scoring teams, offering the most attacking intent. In the end, defending against Spain is no easy task. Many have set up low blocks against us, with very deep defensive structures. If I told you there was nothing to improve, we wouldn’t be at the highest level. The staff already have their minds focused on the Euros, with things to work on."

Finally, the coach highlighted, above all, the spirit, the essence of the team: "The team has ambition, it has character. To turn around an adverse scoreline against a top-level team like England, in a scenario where you know it’s win or bust, says a lot about the mentality of the players and the experience they’re gaining in this type of match. That mentality is what makes the difference at elite level. Technically, they are the best. We will keep improving because we always stay humble."

"I sense that they are eager and hungry for the Euros," with these words Montse ended her appearance ahead of the big summer the national team has ahead.
