Montse Tomé: "We are building a top-level team"

The national team is set to play their second match of the Euros tomorrow against Belgium, and Montse Tomé answered questions from the journalists present in the packed press room at the Thun Arena ahead of the match.

Regarding the state of the team, Montse Tomé acknowledged that "against Portugal we saw many positive things. We told the players after that it was a moment to be happy and to enjoy the victory. However, we know we’ve only won one match and that we must not let it go to our heads as we move forward."

On Aitana Bonmatí, who made her return in Spain’s opening match against Portugal, the head coach stated that the player from Sant Pere de Ribes "has an incredible mental strength and is incredibly focused on the Euros. We’ll see what’s most appropriate for her and always prioritise her health, but the team always needs her and what matters is that she’s available and has fully recovered."

When asked about the recent matches played against the Belgian national team, the Asturian coach confirmed that she has studied Spain’s next opponent thoroughly: "I’ve looked at the most recent matches, of course, they’re fresh in the mind and they still have the same coach. We know Belgium very well, and they have some very high-level players."

Montse Tomé praised the team just 24 hours before Spain’s second match in the Euros in Switzerland: "Spain are fortunate to have many players with a lot of talent and the ability to adapt to different positions. Any one of the 23 who takes the pitch gives us guaranteed quality and complete peace of mind."
