Pontevedra, Rayo Vallecano and Getafe go through
The Galician team and the two teams from Madrid reach the Last 16 of the Copa del Rey MAPFRE and bring the curtain down on five days of goals, excitement and Cup passion.
The Copa del Rey returns with the same excitement as always to open the new football year in style. The cities of Pontevedra, Madrid and Getafe will have experienced a night of celebration and excitement after the victories of their teams in the first official matches of 2025.
The draw for the Last 16 will be held on Wednesday 8 January.
Pontevedra CF caused a surprise in the Pasarón by beating a team that will play the Spanish Super Cup next week. Goals from Dalisson, Yelko Pino and Rufo sent the Pontevedra home fans into a frenzy and knocked out the reigning runners-up, RCD Mallorca.
For their part, Rayo gave Racing Club Ferrol no chance at A Malata. After half an hour, the Valencian side were already 2-0 up thanks to goals from ‘Pacha’ Espino and Jorge de Frutos. In the second half, De Frutos scored again and Álvaro Giménez pulled one back to make it 1-3.
Getafe needed extra time to beat Granada at the Nuevo Los Cármenes. A lone goal from Borja Mayoral, returning from three months out through injury, after an individual move from Turkey's Bertuğ Yıldırım, saw José Bordalás' side through to the last 16.
