Spanish football is set once again to have representation in UEFA’s highest governing body, following the election of the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Rafael Louzán, for a two-year term.

Louzán will now be part of the UEFA Executive Committee after receiving the majority support of European national federations at the elections held on 3rd April in Belgrade, Serbia, as part of the 49th UEFA Ordinary Congress.

The RFEF president secured the backing of representatives from Europe’s national federations in an electoral process that has resulted in Spain’s return to the UEFA Executive Committee.

As Spain’s representative, Rafael Louzán received the highest number of votes, surpassing candidates from Israel, Malta, Ukraine, and Latvia.

Spain’s entry into the UEFA Executive Committee is a recognition of Spanish football’s influence in Europe. It also confirms the Federation’s commitment to stability, institutional order, and transparency during this new era under the current leader, which began on 16th December.

The UEFA Congress brought together the top leaders of European and global football, including FIFA president Gianni Infantino, who highlighted football’s role in uniting people and nations. UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin echoed this sentiment, addressing the “football family” and emphasising that football is a symbol of unity without borders, a “symphony of inclusion and tolerance.”
