The unstoppable growth of women’s football at grassroots level in Spain is enjoying another successful chapter this weekend with the Spanish Regions National Championships (CESA) taking place at the Ciudad del Fútbol Aragonés Óscar Fle in Zaragoza.

After the opening matches in the Gold and Silver categories on the pitch at the Pedro Sancho stadium, Friday afternoon saw the official launch of the tournament. Over the course of three intense days of competition, more than a thousand players from the 34 teams representing the 17 regional federations will take part.

“The growth and development of women’s football in Spain is a reality”

During the large-scale opening ceremony, the president of the RFEF spoke, first expressing his gratitude for “the commitment of the mayor of this wonderful city, Zaragoza, who is here with us today, along with her director general of sports, and of course, for the efforts of the Royal Aragonese Football Federation. Every player is sure to take away an unforgettable memory from this championships, which are not easy to organise. We want to see great football and for the best teams to win, but above all, we want everyone to enjoy the experience and the camaraderie it brings.”

For Rafael Louzán, the CESA tournament “demonstrates the growth of women’s football in Spain through the increasing number of registered players. We are expanding, and the development of this sport is a reality, with the national team and the work of the regional federations serving as prime examples.”

Manuel Torralba, president of the Royal Aragonese Football Federation, the mayor of Zaragoza, Natalia Chueca, the director general of sport for the Government of Aragón, Cristina García Torres, and the city council’s sports delegate, Félix Brocate, also spoke at the event. Their addresses marked the start of what promises to be a great celebration of under-16 and under-14 girls’ football, taking place in Aragón until Sunday.
