As well as the sweltering summer heat today in Las Rozas, the national team felt another kind of warmth, something special, the best kind: that which comes from the affection of their fans. Children, excited to see the champions with their own two eyes, showed all their support with non-stop cheers throughout the entire session.

All that energy was transformed to something tangibly visible on the pitch, in the form of an extra boost that the internationals showed during the training led by Montse Tomé and her coaching staff. Seperately, Esther González, Aitana Bonmatí, Alexia Putellas, Patri Guijarro, Ona Batlle, Mariona Caldentey, Leila Ouhabai and Claudia Pina trained away from the main group, while the rest of their teammates trained out on  Pitch A.

Six players from the Under-23s: Eunate Astralaga, Silvia Lloris, Fiamma Benítez, Clara Pinedo, Ainhoa Marín and Lucía Corrales joined the group for Tuesday’s evening session. Ahead lie two key matches, the last two  fixtures of the UEFA Women’s Nations League group phase against Belgium and England, in matchdays 5 and 6 of group A3. Spain currently lead the group, and as only the top team qualifies, the goal for Friday against the Belgians and Tuesday against the English is clear: to win, finish top of the group and move on to the next phase to continue striving to defend their crown won in February of last year.

The players enjoyed their time with the ball at their feet and later took photos and signed autographs with the fans. Without any doubt, a very emotional afternoon in which the love from the Spain supporters gave the internationals a real energy boost ahead of their first match on Friday the 30th, against Belgium, at Den Dreef Stadium in Leuven, at 20:30 (RTVE). Not only did Montse Tomé’s team go back to the team residence happy, so too did the families in attendance, leaving the Ciudad del Fútbol with smiles and expressions of unquantifiable joy.
