Spain squad receive a briefing on EUROS refereeing

Marta Frías informed the players about the latest rule changes ahead of the continental tournament

Former FIFA and UEFA international referee and current deputy to the head of women’s refereeing at the CTA, Marta Frías, was in charge of informing the players about the latest changes and updates in refereeing ahead of the European Championships in Switzerland, which will take place from 2 to 27 July.


After the morning training session, players and coaching staff listened attentively to Frías’ instructions. The match official is also to participate during the tournament as a Referee Observer with UEFA. Among the topics explained was, for example, the “8-second goalkeeper rule”, and emphasis was placed on the application of the Captains’ Protocol to curb players protesting.


In addition, various criteria regarding challenges, illegal use of the arms, shirt holding and handball were shared. The briefing is part of the squad’s activities in the lead-up to the European tournament, where Spain are to play their opening match against Portugal on 3 July at 21:00 in Bern.
