The national team is unbeaten against Japan who they play in their last World Cup group match

This latest clash between Spain and Japan at the Wellington Regional Stadium will be at a new venue where Spain will try to overcome the Japanese team, which should be their most familiar opponent in the group and according to the history between the two teams. The Spanish record the against the Japanese is an unbeaten one, with three wins and a draw.  

The first time the Spaniards faced the Asian team was in the Algarve Cup 2017 at the Bela Vista stadium, Portugal; the result there was 2-1 in favour of our team. The second occasion was in France; a warm up march for the 2019 World Cup, at the Gérard Houllier stadium, where they shared the spoils and the game ended 1-1. The third match was in the United States at Exploria Stadium; they were playing in the Shebelieves Cup 2020 where the national team produced a footballing masterclass with a 3-1 win. The most recent encounter was at La Cartuja in Seville, where the Japanese team failed to find the back of the net, while our team did so on one occasion.  

Thus, the Japanese women's national football team is already an old acquaintance for Jorge Vilda's team. A draw in Monday’s match would be enough for Spain to finish top of Group C on their way to the last 16.
