The RFEF supports International Women’s Week
Coinciding with the celebration of 8th March, Spanish football is launching various initiatives to promote equality and highlight women’s rights in sport and football.
This coming Saturday, 8th March, marks International Women’s Day, and to mark the occasion, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) is set to carry out a range of initiatives throughout the week to raise awareness within Spanish football.
Starting today, the RFEF’s social media channels will turn pink, the colour symbolising the occasion. In addition, a commemorative banner has been displayed on the front of the federation’s headquarters at the Ciudad del Fútbol. The image features women who are already key figures in both national and international football, serving as role models for boys and girls who dream of becoming coaches, referees, footballers as well as other roles in football.
Among these inspirational figures are Montse Tomé, national team coach, Alexia Putellas, two-time Ballon d’Or winner, and Olga Carmona, World Cup winner, as well as referees Marta Huerta de Haza and Guadalupe Porras Ayuso, and Clàudia Pons, head coach of the national futsal team. They embody the message “Of course you can!”, a statement aimed at encouraging women, young girls, and anyone with a passion for football.
The Spain women’s national team has also taken centre stage in a powerful video created to spread this message to women everywhere, reflecting the strength and determination of the next generation of female footballers.
Another major highlight of International Women’s Week will be the first-leg matches of the Iberdrola Copa de la Reina semi-finals, taking place this week. The ties will see Granada CF face Atlético Madrid, while Real Madrid take on FC Barcelona. The campaign and its slogan will feature prominently in these crucial clashes, with children and various audiovisual initiatives enhancing the experience before and during the matches.
Under the leadership of Rafael Louzán, the RFEF remains fully committed to promoting equality in football. As part of this new era, the federation will continue to develop projects, initiatives, and actions aimed at achieving this key objective.
