Irene Paredes, aiming for her fourth final
It will be her fourth final in less than three years. On 20 August 2023, Spain played the World Cup final against England, earning the star that now shines above the national crest. Since then, the team has contested two more finals — one against France in the Nations League, where Spain claimed the title, and another against England in the EURO in Switzerland, finishing as runners-up.
Now, one month from now, Sonia Bermúdez’s side will play their fourth final, and their second consecutive UEFA Women’s Nations League final, this time against Germany.
One of the team’s captains, Irene Paredes, knows exactly what lies ahead and embraces it with pride — both for the group’s unity and for the bright moment Spanish football is living through:
“This is the beginning of a very special era for Spanish football and for the national team. I’m proud to be part of it and to contribute. I feel fortunate to still be here after so many years, to keep helping the team, to share the dressing room with such talented teammates, and to have the goal of another final — and to go for it.”
As captain, Paredes is often seen rallying her teammates before kick-off, motivating them in the dressing room, and leading by example both on and off the pitch — serving as a bridge within a squad that blends experience and youth to perfection:
“We have an excellent generation, mixing veteran players with very young ones who are already capable of starting matches against top-three teams. We work very hard every day. Now is the time to make the most of this moment and this generation. It took us many years to reach finals — and now what we want is to win them.”

That final — which Paredes and her teammates are determined to win, defending their Nations League crown — will be played over two legs against Germany, with the second leg set for 2 December at Madrid’s Estadio Metropolitano.
