Luck to be drawn for the penultimate step on the road to La Cartuja in Seville
This Monday, 19 January (live at 1:00pm CET on Teledeporte, Movistar Plus+ and rfef.es), the draw for the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey Mapfre will take place.
If the Copa del Rey Mapfre round of 16 has produced ties for the history books — including shocks of the magnitude witnessed at the Carlos Belmonte Stadium — the next round begins to take shape with real excitement this Monday in Las Rozas.
From 1:00pm (Spanish mainland time), with live coverage on Teledeporte, Movistar Plus+ and the RFEF’s official platforms, the quarter-final line-up will be decided, featuring a thrilling set of four single-leg ties to be played between Tuesday 3 and Thursday 5 February.
From this point on, anything can happen. One thing is certain, however: surprise package Albacete Balompié will open Monday’s draw. Their ball will be the first to be pulled out, and they will host one of the seven remaining LaLiga EA Sports sides, all of whom will be placed together in a single pot regardless of whether or not they took part in the Spanish Super Cup.
The remaining three ties will be contested between the six other LaLiga EA Sports teams, with home advantage determined by the order in which the balls are drawn.
The quarter-finals — the penultimate round before April’s showpiece final at La Cartuja Stadium in Seville — will also be the last stage played as a single match. The semi-finals will be played over two legs, ensuring that every team reaching that stage is guaranteed at least one home fixture in front of their supporters.
The die is cast, with the following distribution of the eight teams still in the hunt for glory:
