RFEF and LALIGA Sign Memorandums of Understanding with the Chinese Football Association
The governing bodies of Spanish and Chinese football will share expertise, exchange professional talent and stage international football events in the coming years.
As part of the 10th China–Spain Forum, which opens this Thursday at the Real Casino de Madrid, the President of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Rafael Louzán, the President of LALIGA, Javier Tebas, and the President of the Chinese Football Association (CFA), Song Kai, signed separate memorandums of understanding aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the fields of education, development and the organisation of international sporting events.
The signing of this strategic agreement was attended by Shen Yiqin, State Councillor of the Government of the People’s Republic of China, and Concepción Andreu, Second Vice President of the Spanish Senate. The ceremony preceded the official opening of the China–Spain Forum, where the presidents of RFEF, LALIGA and the CFA took part in a round-table discussion on sports diplomacy.
Through these agreements, Spanish football continues to strengthen its international ties by sharing the expertise gained during a particularly successful period, with Spain’s national teams currently leading the FIFA world rankings and the country spearheading the bid to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
Under the terms of the memorandums, the Spanish and Chinese football authorities commit to developing technical and professional exchange programmes, with a strong focus on grassroots football. The areas of cooperation will range from data analysis and technological applications to broadcast rights, public relations and collaboration in major international tournaments.
This new agreement builds on previous strategic initiatives led by RFEF and LALIGA in China, aimed at supporting the development of professional football in the country while fostering institutional dialogue and closer ties between both societies.
During the round-table discussion on sports diplomacy as a bridge between cultures, Rafael Louzán highlighted “the enormous amount of talent and work behind the success of the national teams, as well as the presence of more than 70,000 Spanish coaches, many of whom are working around the world and acting as ambassadors for our football. Partnerships such as those signed today further strengthen this mission.”
The session also featured the participation of Javier Tebas, CFA President Song Kai and Li Kemin, President of the Chinese Professional Football League.
