The RFEF Hosts the Official Reception for the Supercopa Finalists in Jeddah: “This Tournament Fills Us with Pride”
The President of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Rafael Louzán, expressed his gratitude to all those who have contributed to the success of this edition of the Supercopa, while also highlighting the warm welcome extended by Saudi fans and authorities.
The highly anticipated Clásico final, which will place world football at the center of attention this Sunday, enjoyed a vibrant prelude at the official reception hosted by the RFEF for FC Barcelona and Real Madrid in the city of Jeddah.
With the Supercopa trophy at the heart of the ceremony, the finalist clubs were represented by FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta and Real Madrid’s Director of Institutional Relations, Emilio Butragueño. Both posed alongside the season’s first major trophy, with the President of the RFEF acting as host of the event.
In his address to attendees, Rafael Louzán emphasized that “this event is of great importance for Spain, as it gives our sport a global dimension. A Barcelona–Real Madrid match represents the greatest rivalry in world football, and that is something that fills us all with pride.”
“I would like to sincerely thank,” the RFEF President continued, “everyone whose dedication, commitment, and passion have made this new edition of the Supercopa de España a success.” Louzán extended his gratitude to “the four participating teams, the more than 80 grassroots clubs accompanying us, as well as the Saudi authorities and supporters, who have set an example of hospitality throughout these days. Together, we will enjoy a great final this Sunday.”
This sentiment was echoed by the representatives of the finalist clubs. FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta stated that “with the current four-team format, the Supercopa de España has gained prestige and international projection, which is a credit to the RFEF and its president Rafael Louzán, whom we congratulate. Winning on Sunday is very important for us, as we aim to relive last season’s successes, and that journey begins with lifting the Supercopa.”
Real Madrid arrive in Jeddah with the same ambition. Their Director of Institutional Relations, Emilio Butragueño, noted that “we are facing a match of exceptional appeal, and we will do everything possible to make our supporters happy. We are always grateful for the hospitality shown by this country and its fans, whose support will be a key factor during tomorrow’s match.”
From 22:00 (peninsular Spanish time) this Sunday, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid will meet in the Jeddah final to decide the Supercopa de España— a competition that, since adopting its current format and venue, has consistently seen its champion go on to lift the national league title as well.
