HIGHLIGHTS | Excitement, goals and surprises in the second round opening night
Four away wins, a tie decided on penalties and a Segunda Federación side knocking out a top flight side.
Tuesday's Copa del Rey kicked off with a duel between teams separated by three categories: Real Ávila, from the Second Federation, and Real Valladolid, from the First Division. The visitors struggled back into the match to come from behind at the Adolfo Suárez to win 2-4 in extra time. Elche won narrowly in Yecla thanks to a lone goal from Óscar Plano.
The 9 p.m. kick-off was full of football, emotion and goals. Celta gave no breathing space to Salamanca CF UDS and won at the Helmántico Stadium by 0-7. For their part, UD Barbastro were the surprise package of the day and of the Cup so far with a 2-0 win over First Division RCD Espanyol thanks to a double from Sito Barrera that sent the Municipal de Deportes de Barbastro into a frenzy as did a stellar night from goalkeeper Arnau Fàbrega. Granada CF won the duel of Second Division teams after defeating Real Zaragoza in a penalty shoot-out at La Romareda with a great Luca Zidane performance.
CE Europa and UD Las Palmas closed the day's action at the Nou Sardenya in Barcelona's Gràcia district. The Gran Canarian side defeated the Escapolles 2-1 with a brace from Scotland's Oliver McBurnie to seal their place in the last 16.
