Maximum attention during talk on sporting integrity
Cristina Díaz, UEFA & FIFA Integrity Officer, representing the Integrity Department of the RFEF, gave an interesting talk this afternoon to the 23 internationals to compete at the Euros in Switzerland from 2 to 27 July.
The players, in the midst of their preparations for the continental tournament, listened attentively to Díaz’s guidance on sporting integrity with one goal: to do the right thing in the face of potential malignant situations. Focused on the prevention of match-fixing, the talk centred on all aspects surrounding the world of betting to give the players an in-depth understanding of the situation.
It is estimated that during the EUROS, bets will be placed amounting to 2.83 trillion euros, much of it occurring in spot batting markets: red cards, yellow cards, number of goals, number of corners, penalties… During her presentation, Cristina Díaz spoke to the players and coaching staff about the importance of ‘zero tolerance’ and the risks behind every illegal action related to betting.
She warned them of the ways in which third parties might try to approach them and explained the tools, communication channels and preventive measures that are at their disposal to report any situation during the tournament related to match-fixing or illegal spot betting.
As a final reflection, “we all need to be part of protecting the integrity of this sport, and the objective is to prevent corruption from damaging our sport and the competition.” With these words, Cristina Díaz encouraged the players to follow the following course of action: Recognise, Reject and Report. Only in this way can bad practices be eradicated.
